I hung out with Kelsey when I was home. He showed me the book he's working on of photographs he took while working in Africa. It's going to be amazing.



It was his birthday a few days later and a bunch of us got together for dinner and drinks to celebrate. Cat, Rob and Jodi are watching the infamous 'botfly' video on youtube..

Craig and I went out to breakfast the morning I left. He found a Rubiks cube a block away from the restaurant and had it solved a few seconds after we sat down.

One Lonely Afternoon

Since the fern can't go to the sink for a drink of
water, I graciously submit myself to the task, bringing two
glasses from the sink.
And so we sit, the fern and I, sipping water together.


Of course I'm more complex than a fern, full of deep
thoughts as I am. But I lay this aside for the easy company
of an afternoon friendship.

I don't mind sipping water with a fern, even though,
had I my druthers, I'd be speeding through the sky for
Stockholm, sipping a bloody mary with a wedge of lime.

And so we sit one lonely afternoon sipping water
together. The fern looking out of its fronds, and I, looking
out of mine . . .

While I was back in Seattle I ran into Pham whom I met a few years ago through Nate, who was living there at the time. She was working when I saw her, so I did a sort of rookie ride and followed her around for a bit while she made a few deliveries.

I'm the worst at buying presents for my family, so instead for Christmas I brought them on the ferry to Bainbridge Island and took them out to breakfast.
